Majorda is a suburb of Margao, one of the major cities of southern Goa. We stayed here as a stopping point between Olaulim and Hampi, but had a much more eventful 8 hours than we expected!

On leaving Olaulim Backyards, Anand dropped us off once more at Thivim railway station where we had a train booked to Margao, one of the larger towns in Southern Goa. We had booked a hotel right next to the station, planning to crash there ahead of an early start to a long days travel to Hampi the next day. Unfortunately, we arrived at the hotel to find our room no longer available, thus needed to spend some time finding alternative accommodation.
Now whilst painful, this was the 45th location we've stayed at on this trip, and the first time this has happened, so we were reasonably philosophical about it. We found a hotel close to the beach at Majorda, bout 10KM away, and after a short but frustratingly expensive taxi ride there (bus and railway stations are a nightmare for fair taxi prices) we deposited our bags and spent the afternoon exploring the lovely beach at Majorda. First call was to enjoy some lunch at a handy beach shack, which happened to have alcohol free Carlsberg in their fridge, allowing me to have a much apreciated, guilt free, cold beer!
From the beach we returned to our accommodation where we relaxed in air-conditioned cool for an hour, before heading out for dinner. Julie had spotted an excellent looking restaurant called Martin's Corner not 500M away - and it lived up to our expectations. With a really good live cover band (the kind where almost every number sounds almost like the original artist) and superb food, we both enjoyed fish of various types, and Julie even stretched to a glass of white wine.
8th February
With a 7AM train booked from a station 10KM away, we needed a 5AM alarm this morning - not our favourite thing. The saving grace was that everything went smoothly, and the taxi booked through Goa Miles the previous day turned up on-time, and got us to the station with time to spare. Ahead of the first of two long train journeys today, we were also treated to a beautiful sunrise as we crossed the tracks, before boarding the train towards Hampi.
