Month by month
From it's original conception as a "What if?" in June 2022, we eventually set out on our voyage late in August of 2023. In these pages we'll break down the journey to each month and talk about where we went and what we did.
The journey begins... From finishing work on Friday 18th, through a week of last-minute preparations and catching up with people, to eventually jumping on a train on 27th, let's see where August took us.
Starting with a bout of illness, we headed further south in Albania to visit cosmopolitan Tirana, then into North Macedonia to visit Ohrid and Skopje. A brief visit to Sofia in Bulgaria led to a detour into Greece, and then a race through Turkey!
October was all about Georgia! Magnificent mountains, trendy Tbilisi, and a glut of gastronimic options were ably supported by the countries main export - fabulous Georgian wine!
As we land in magnificent and multifaceted India, I suspect it will take a good chunk of this month to adjust to the pace of it all - both the fast, and the painfully slow!
From tiger safaris in the North, via thousands of kilometers of train travel to the lush waters of Kerala in the south, visiting glittering Mumbai and peaceful, beautiful Goa, December was a journey in every way imaginable!
Seeing-in the new year in the chaos of the Cochin Carnival set us up well to tour the south, with a punishing itinerary leading us from coast to coast and back again!
After the craziness of January, we spent a few relaxing days in Gokarna and the Olaulim backyards. Rejuvinated, we set off for the temples of Hampi, before jetting up to Kolkata to continue our exploration of the North.
As we enter the last few weeks of our epic trip, we make a mad dash through the North West, visiting Agra, Amritsar and Dharamshala as we clock up the miles.
